Synopsis

A girl finds she is forced to educate herself on the etiquette of wooing the opposite sex when she finally meets Mr. Right and not Mr. Right Now.

Review

Cameron, Christina and Selma put togther is a riot.  Basically a “chick flick” but lots of guy fun, this flick is one if the top comedy’s in my collection.  Christina (Diaz) is a player and is just looking for a good time, but after meeting a stranger in a bar trying to hook her friend up (Blair) she becomes hooked on Peter.

There are lots of hilarious one liners and funny parts in the movie, the writer’s did a great job with this movie.  They kept the lingo current, the happenings of these three chicks real and finally answer the burning question… YES girls like sex too!

There are too many hilarious moments and one liners to go repeating them all right now, but trust me, if you haven’t seen this movie yet, you are going to piss your pants laughing so hard.

mummy

Synopsis

In the Far East, trouble-seeking father-and-son duo Rick and Alex O’Connell unearth the mummy of the first Chinese Emperor of Qin — a shape-shifting entity who was cursed by a witch centuries ago… if legend is true and he is brought back… earth as we know it is doomed.

Review

In the third or fourth installment of the Mummy Series, they bring back some of the cast (Frasier, Hannah etc…) and bring in some great martial artists (Lee, Juan) and try to use the Mummy Name to make another blockbuster. It is the same story line as the others, an ancient curse brings back one of the greatest enemies of all time.

The action in the movie is quite exciting, there are lots of twists and turns that keep the action and adventure moving in the story.  The O’Connell’s rely on their sharp wits, breathtaking action moves and a little bit of luck to track down the the enemy and try and send them back to his tomb.

There are some things that make the story unbelieveable… the biggest being that their son is now old enough to be resurrecting an ancient Emperor, but his parents are still in the “adventure” business and are nimble enough to run around dodging bullets and spears to be able to join him in his quest.  Barring that and a few other small details, the movie is full of action like The Mummy and The Mummy Returns and has some great visual effects.

This movie doesn’t completely fit the mold as an ancient egyptian curse movie, but it is fresh idea to keep the franchise alive without involving the washed up Imotep.

Synopsis

A frustrated office worker learns that he is the son of a professional assassin, and that he shares his father’s superhuman killing abilities.  He is bound by the “code” of the brotherhood… but will it kill him?

Review

This was a great movie! I was very impressed and refreshed that they came up with a great assassin movie that has you switching sides all throughout the movie.

James McAvoy (Wesley) is a relative unknown and is teamed up with Angelina Jolie (Fox) and Morgan Freeman (Sloan) to make an awesome movie.  Wesley makes a great office worker loser turned assassin.  He joins his brotherhood when he finds out his father was an assassin as well.

Everything is turned upside down when he finds out Sloan is playing him and the team and is picking and choosing the targets at will.  The storyline is well done, the screen play well written and there is tonnes of action and twists and turns to keep you guessing throughout the movie.  I actually went and saw this movie twice, hoping to find a way that Fox doesn’t bite it at the end so they could make a sequel… that is how good the movie is!

twilight_book_coverWell, I have just finished Twilight… and it should make an excellent movie… if it keeps all of the elements the same as the book.

It did start off slow… and god knows I have read a few stories about vampires.  I was facinated with vampires when I was younger, so I like to read stories and watch movies about vampires to see what is new and what people can come up with.  The best vampire movie that I have watched in a long time was Dracula 2000.  Mayer comes up with a whole different world of vampires, so it will be interesting to see how it is played out on the big screen.

Bella and Edward make the classic love story, except Edward is a vampire.  Everyone is afraid of Edward and the Cullen family, except for Bella… she finds them interesting.  As the story progresses, you see that there is nothing for Bella to be scared about… well except Edward wanting to eat her for lunch… but of course, he holds back and finds the strength to resist.

Of course, the “other vampires” don’t see it the same way and Bella becomes the target.  Is there such a thing as “civilized” vampires? There sure is!  Meyer creates a world where vampires roam and the humans don’t even know they are there.

The end of the book brings alot of action and confusion as Bella is “hunted” and there are many plot twists and turns.  Time to start the next book in the series… New Moon.

Synopsis

In the game of seduction, there is only one rule: Never fall in love with anyone.

Review

In this remake of Dangerous Liasions (1988), Cruel Intentions puts all of the young, talented stars together for a blockbuster movie.  Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, Selma Blair, Sean Patrick Thomas, Tara Reid and Joshua Jackson headline a blockbuster cast and make a dynomite movie.

Kathryn bets her brother that he can’t bag the virgin Annette, despite all of his conquests of sleeping with anyone he desires.  There are many other subplots and twisted things that make up this movie, but that is the major plot line.  I have to give props to the writers of the screen play and the director, they did a great job showing that young people of this day and age aren’t all drug toting burnouts but good people that can be intellegent and articulate… and also manipulate anyone to get what they want.

Synopsis

Leland Gaunt comes to Sheriff Alan Pangborn’s pleasant little New England town, and opens a store. What this kindly Satan sells is whatever you need… for a price! The destruction of the town looms as Sheriff Pangborn pieces together the history of Leland Gaunt.

Review

Okay… so going from the synopsis, it is a little far fetched… but hey, it is fiction right?  This is one of the few stories from Stephen King that I have enjoyed.  It is one of the few stories from him that isn’t “overwritten”. Both the movie and the book were very entertaining, the movie actually stays very close to the book and not changed like they do for many other adaptions.

Scream Trilogy Review November 8, 2008

I can’t have movie reviews on my blog without having a review of one of the smartest, scariest and well put together trilogies of all time… The Scream Trilogy!

Synopsis

A psychopathic serial killer is stalking a group of teens who have seen one too many scary movies.

Review

SCREAM starts out like no other… killing off the biggest star in the movie… in the opening scene.  It all starts with a ringing phone and ends in the satisfaction of a great scary movie.  Drew Barrymore was supposed to be Sidney… but Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson thought it would be better to have Neve play Sid, then keep the audience guessing.  I mean really… who is going to kill off Drew in the opening scene?  Now many horror movies start out the same way… kill scene at the beginning of the movie… then opening credits and titles. Wes and Kevin were pioneers starting this craze.

After the opening scene, it is a SCREAM to try and figure out who the killer is.  The ghost mask? Pretty damn creepy if you ask me.  The kill scenes are realistic and the whole movie is put together really well.  There are the stupid exceptions of the Sidney dumb moments… I count 3 or 4 off the top of my head…
“Do they know who did it…” with her scratching her head at the start of the movie (after Drew bites it)
“Ah dad…” at the end of the movie when her dad comes crashing out of the closet

But you get what I mean.  The plot was well done, you could never guess there was going to be two killers at the end (Billy was a gimme) and there was lots of scary.  Great job!

Synopsis

In a “remake” of the 1989 classic Batman, Gordon , Batman and Harvey Dent are forced to deal with the chaos unleashed by an anarchist mastermind known only as the Joker, as he tries to take over the mobs of Gothem City.

Review

I have to say, I was really skeptical before I saw this movie.  How could they redo a classic? I was very skeptical about anyone but Jack Nicholson playing the Joker… anyone can play Batman… but who can seriously do better than Jack? I have to say, Heath Ledger MADE the movie.

There are a couple of trival parts that I disliked in the movie, including Harvey Dent not being Africian American (like the original), Batman’s Voice (whats with the retarded raspy and angry voice?) and acouple of other random things that were missing from the movie that were big parts of the first movie.

Synopsis

A young couple staying in an isolated vacation home are terrorized by three unknown assailants who scare the living crap out of them.  They aren’t able to run… they aren’t able to hide… they are at the mercy of these unknown assailants.

Review

I was very skeptical when I first started this movie, I haven’t seen a “scarey” movie in awhile… you know one that makes you almost pee your pants and clutch a pillow in terror…

Lets set the scene… we begin by turning out all the lights, lighting 3 candles and JACKING the volume up the on the TV.  If you are going to watch a scarey movie… you have to do it right… right?

Well… let me tell you, the opening is okay, it sets the scene… a happy couple… so much in love, then they get to the vacation house in the middle of BF nowhere.  Then the fun starts!

MIchael Crichton passed away unexpectedly today of after a courageous bought with cancer.  He was 66.  A medical doctor, with interests in TV, movies and writing will definitely leave a legacy of entertaining his fans all across the globe.  Great articles about his life and works can be found at CNN.com and Wikipedia.org.

jurassicparkSome of his greatest movies included the Jurassic Park Series, Timeline, Congo and Sphere.  Those were all great movies that were based on his books, which were also great reads that challenged the worlds of science, medicine, ethics and social responsibility.  I always enjoyed the movies that were created from his novels… they mostly stayed true to what he wrote.  Michael usually had a big hand in the production of his movies, so they most always stayed true to what he wrote in the novel. He turned his novels into incredible screen plays and the result always captivated his audience to see exactly what he was trying to convey by bringing this novels to life.  Jurassic Park is a classic and will surely always be his legacy.
